Well, he is a bit like you – he has a nose, 2 eyes, loves a beer and most likely could go to the gym a bit more (well, maybe that is more like me).

I’ll tell you why he’s not like you –

He hardly ever comes back from a day fishing with NOTHING to show for it.

Because he spends his entire time thinking about fishing – we’re talking about a guy who has lived in the wilderness, who has literally survived on just fish, and a guy who joined the navy just to fish.

That is all he does, all he thinks about.

Joel doesn’t have another job to worry about – he doesn’t fish just in the evenings and weekends, this guy has fished more times that you could ever dream of. The guy is a fishing scientist (literally, he has a degree in it)

Let me ask you a question – are your parents expert Crappie Fishermen? If yes, then drop me an email and teach me a few tricks. But if not, can you imagine how good it would be for your mom and dad to impart of all their crappie fishing tips wisdom to you from the day you were born? You don’t need to guess the guy who’s parents did?

You simply have to do it.

I regularly go away with the guys, and you know what – if they guys aren’t there, then I’m off by myself. I just love the clean air, the beers, the banter and the taste of freshly caught fish (and the beer and banter are even better if you take friends along).

A few years ago, me and a few guys went to Kentucky Lake – a hell of a trek, but certainly worth it.

The place is teaming with fish, but thankfully there is some skill involved.

I don’t know about you but I’d rather catch me 1 large crappie after a well thought out day, than catch 15 and feel they were all luck.

But then again maybe that’s just me.

That’s it – that’s my first tip, and in my first sentence too – not a bad start.

Just kidding – I’m sure that a lot of you know tips like that – but I’m sure that there are a few people who’ve been trying different places, making life more tough than they had to!

Seriously, the best way to become a better crappie fisher is to head where there are more fish. I’ve seen countless guys over the years spend money on all sorts of new equipment, ridiculous home-made bait recipes, say all sorts of secret prayers and …..nothing. Meanwhile, on their way home, they pass an old guy who’s been fishing less time that day than they have, who walks past them with a bucket of freshly caught fish and a big smile on his face. His equipment looks tired, his clothes are scruffy, and he will either have a beard, or lots of stubble. You know the guy I’m talking about.

What has he done differently? location, location, location.

When I was younger, I was so cocky, I knew nothing and though I could outplay anyone at anything by the sheer force of my hustle. Now, hustling is useful in most sports, but take it from a former loser – it ain’t right for fishing.

This is just my first post, and quite a rant – but I’ll provide much more detial on my favourite spots, my favourite tips and even my favourite recipes, just for you!
